‘The Coach House’ Moves Forward.
We're thrilled to share progress on our Grade II Listed Coach House transformation in Clapham Common - a project that's been taking our full attention since the beginning of the year and is now taking shape on site.
Originally built to house carriages and horses, this historic outbuilding is being thoughtfully extended and completely renovated. Our approach preserves the building's listed period features at the front whilst introducing a modest contemporary approach through the rear extension and garden studio. The spacious kitchen by @kitchenarchitectureltd flows seamlessly into dining and living areas, with large glazed doors creating fluid transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces. A large roof light floods the open-plan area with natural light, whilst reclaimed London Stock brick softens the architectural interventions.
Conceptually, the design draws from a series of brick pillars framing apertures, supporting a lightweight stepped flat roof that references traditional soldier course brickwork. Thoughtful details define the character throughout: 'hit and miss' brickwork patterns to the garden studio, a hidden 'spikizi' style threshold into the study space, exposed internal brick walls, and wooden framed openings that capture the essence of transition between spaces.
Working closely with Fraser Hay Interiors, we've explored innovative materials and textures, creating a harmonious living environment through a carefully curated palette that celebrates history whilst providing modern comfort.
Our partnership with @bw_structures has been instrumental in achieving the precision our design demanded, with every detail meticulously planned and every challenge elegantly solved.
